History

New Destinations, Inc. was incorporated in October 2008 by Susan Kincaid, Larry Lackey and Pam Douglas.  The owners have combined experience of over 50 years in the mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse field in North Carolina.  Susan Kincaid and Pam Douglas have experience working with an Area Program, Local Management Entity and private providers.  Larry Lackey has experience working with a not-for-profit private provider who has extensively expanded housing in North Carolina for adults with mental illness.  Larry Lackey brings extensive knowledge of HUD requirements as both a property managing agent and program operations.

During May, 2009, The Mental Health Association in North Carolina, Inc. notified Orange-Person- Chatham MH/DD/SA Authority, The Durham Center and Cumberland County Mental Health Center that they would be relinquishing program operations for Serenity Crest Group Home, Eden Square Group Home, The Overlook Apartments, Southwood Group Home, Eastwood Group Home, Arbor Road Group Home, Lura Tally Apartments and Hank Debnam Apartments.

New Destinations contacted the Local Management Entities to inquire about the programs that were to be relinquished.  After discussions and submitting requests to operate these programs, Orange-Person- Chatham MH/DD/SA Authority, The Durham Center and Cumberland County Mental Health Center awarded contracts to New Destinations, Inc.

During July, 2009, New Destinations began the process of transferring licensure from The Mental Health Association in NC, Inc. to New Destinations.  New Destinations, Inc. assumed program operations of the above programs in September 2009.

On December 1, 2009, The Mental Health Association in NC, Inc. notified Smoky Mountain Center, Crossroads Behavioral Healthcare and Eastpointe that they were going to discontinue program operations for the McDowell Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Brookdale Group Home, Timber Ridge Apartments and Willow Brook Apartments.  New Destinations, Inc. contacted the Local Management Entities to request a transfer of these programs to New Destinations.  After being awarded these programs, New Destinations began the process of licensure transfer effective February 1, 2010.

New Destinations, Inc. received corporate and site specific (McDowell MHC) endorsement from Smoky Mountain Center in January 2010.  The national accreditation process will begin in early March.  New Destinations, Inc. will be seeking CARF national accreditation.

As of February 1, 2010, New Destinations, Inc. will be operating seven (7) group homes, five (5) apartments and one (1) psychosocial rehabilitation program in eight (8) counties cross North Carolina and contracting with six (6) Local Management Entities.  New Destinations, Inc. employs approximately forty (40) employees and has an estimated 2010 budget of 2,083,000.

New Destinations, Inc. plans to expand services to include additional psychosocial rehabilitation programs in underserved areas of North Carolina.  Currently we are providing services to adults; however this may be expanded to include children and adolescent services in the future.
